I enjoyed meeting LIGHTS after the show, she’s the nicest person. We got our picture with her and she signed my CD. The video below is from that night, but unfortunately not filmed by me.

Being the great friend that I am and knowing how much Luis wanted a DS, I had to tell him about what he could do if he got a red one.

To clarify this more clearly, I have designed a shirt to help people understand what reddshack is not.

I think I did rather well with putting it all together. I spent a couple of hours painting the acrylic nails to look really gross. My scruff could have been longer/thicker but I only had a week to let it grow by the time I decided on being Sabretooth. I managed to find the perfect jackets after a visit to Savers and Macy’s.

Also present at the party was Wolverine. Apparently his claws didn’t arrive in the mail on time and there wasn’t much he could do about having a beard to further the detail of his costume (BYU Dress and Grooming Standards). Yes, we ended up having an epic battle and I totally won.

I will refer you to my aunt’s blog post and photo gallery for a more complete representation of our weekend. Cindy takes incredible pictures. She always captures the moment just right. The video at the end of her post sums up our chaotic moments.

For the aquatic portion, we voyaged through Targhee National Forest in canoes and a raft, shouting back and forth What About Bob? quotes. Screaming “AHOY!” down the river and exclaiming that you are a sailor and sailing never gets old. There were two minor casualties as my dad and uncle attempted to recover the foam ball from the river that my nephew threw in. Their canoe capsized and my dad’s face was priceless as he emerged from the three-foot-deep water, gasping for every breath of air his body could take in. I would like to let the record show that he did NOT lose his glasses.

I coined the phrase “grumpy boat” as a result of last year’s river trip where my dad became impatient with our lack of rowing and concentration. I believe he used the word dilly-dallying to describe our non-existent efforts. Despite my best efforts this year, my boat was the grumpy boat yet again. I paddled my two nieces down the river as they ‘helped’ with their one paddle. Apparently two hours of sitting doesn’t go over well with the youth of today. I was completely content and enjoyed the scenery while my oldest niece wanted to be anywhere but in the canoe. Bless little kid’s hearts.

My cousin, Luke, summoned the moose of the valley with his nature-defying moose call. We turned our boats around and paddled straight for her, taking pictures and letting Luke communicate further. Swimming below us were many schools of fish. At one point Tyler tried to catch one with his bare hands. He lunged from the raft and came up with nothing. I personally believe that he really caught six, but due to his love of nature he let them all go and told us they were just too fast and impossible to be captured into captivity. We will never know what really happened for those few moments he was beneath the water.

Yellowstone was just as rewarding as when I went a few months ago with my dad. Old Faithful blew even harder this time and we didn’t even have to wait as long. In the gift shop we were pleased to find a magical creation, magnetic rocks with the scientific-term called hematite. They were $8 for as many as you could fit into a little pouch. I stuffed the pouch in the most mathematically-logical way I could think of and we ended up with 25 metallic, shiny stones. On the drive through the park we saw buffalo, a dodge viper caravan, some elk and the most beautiful scenery that our national forest has to offer.

The vacation obviously included incredible food. Each meal was prepared with the assistance from all of us, utilizing Redd family teamwork that we’ve all become accustom to. The hot tub was always the perfect way to end the day, providing the ultimate relaxation experience, being surrounded by wilderness and most likely hungry bears.

By far the most enjoyable parts of every vacation are the forever memorable conversations and jokes that will live on in all of our hearts and minds. My personal favorite was showing my cousins how to determine the magnetic poles of a magnet with copper wire and a battery. I was so proud to utilize my summer physics knowledge in real life. Then there was the classic “ham press” provided by Toby as we drove past Tyler, Kelsey and Alyssa. He promised me he didn’t let his cheeks touch my window. Use your imagination. heh.

I look forward to the next Redd adventure and hope that even more of us can make it (Camille, Calley and Tyson). And now the onslaught of pictures. 45 of our happiest moments.

guy: “Pens, paper, Glock 40 with 26 rounds in a leather holster…”

me: “You have a gun in your bag?”

guy: “Yeah, it’s a state school, I’m ALLOWED TO!”

me: (blink a couple of times at him) “Ok.”

My reason for asking him was not because I disagreed, it was more dealing with how open and bragging he was about it. I thought the point of a concealed weapons permit was to keep it, well… concealed. So much for his secret. Now I get to wonder everyday just how competent he is with his firearm and how/when it could threaten my personal student safety.

I can’t even begin to describe how warm and fuzzy this sign made me. And I’ve only been gone a week and a half.

For the record, I’m referring to the top sign. But yes, the bottom sign is useful to know in case I was ever thirsty while walking thru the underground tunnel.

Meese was semi-enjoyable. They have decent music but are extremely lacking in many areas. They sound like just another local band. Meese said that this was their second tour with The Fray. If they haven’t gained in popularity after one national tour, I doubt there is little the second tour will do for them. I enjoyed Owl City far more from the Relient K concert a couple months ago. I highly recommend giving them a listen instead.

Jack’s Mannequin put on an awesome show. Andrew’s piano skills are impressive and his dexterity rivals that of most drummers. Although an odd choice of band to tour with The Fray, their piano inclusion must have been what brought them together. Jack’s Mannequin sounded just as good live as they do on their cd’s. I definitely enjoyed watching them the most. What I’d like to see next time: Andrew should do a flip off of his piano rather than prance off like an injured deer. Honorable mentions: beautiful guitars and the guitarist did a scissor kick. Nice.

The Fray are excellent musicians. I really enjoyed their set and was in awe with the incredible light display. Before the show started, I told my sister that the lighting would be the best part. I think most would agree that it was. I loved everyone holding up their cellphones at the end. There was such a cool vibe seeing the glowing lights wave around. Constructive criticism: stage presence. Do something more than standing in place. Praises: the Kanye West encore was awesome. And I love it when bands have an intro/outro for their tour. It makes it especially special and unique.

I was able to record most of “How to Save a Life”. The crowd singing along at the end will forever be a favorite memory of mine.

This was another very worthwhile concert. I’m glad I was able to attend and appreciated the accompaniment of my sister. I love watching musicians enjoy what they do. It’s truly inspiring to see the stage come alive and hear the live music that has been ingrained in my head since the first time I heard it.

This vacation was well needed by me and was the perfect get-away. We didn’t make any reservations or have any set plans. We just drove until we saw something we liked, looked at it and moved on to the next thing. Very leisurely and enjoyable. We had some great talks together and were able to experience the Tetons and Yellowstone in a way I never have before. I was grateful for my dad and all his preparations he put into this trip. He bought all the food, bought new camping supplies, memorized the maps and had a mental list full of things we could do.

We stayed the first night in Grand Teton National Park and then the second night in Yellowstone National Park. We drove my car which allowed us to bring more gear and ride in comfort. The weather was perfect and never got too hot. By the end of the trip I counted over 200 mosquitoes bites on me. This was due to not wearing any bug spray and wearing short sleeves, shorts and flip flops the entire time. Bug bites have never really bothered me. Highlights included seeing a bear, reading the Book of Mormon together each night, watching my dad enjoy himself on a vacation and of course all the great food we ate. We’re hoping to have another outing before the end of summer.

Vacations with my dad are always unforgettable. Our family has a quote book just of his sayings and comments that are sure to bring my entire family to laughter if reminisced of ever. Thanks for everything dad.
